An Inner World (内的世界, Naiteki Sekai?), also called a Mental World (心象世界, Shinshō Sekai??), is a term referring to the compilation of a person's experiences and emotions, usually confined within them:[1] Their Inner Self (内面, Naimen?).[2][3]
Characteristics
As humans live, they create illusions (幻像, Genzō?) within themselves resembling the people they meet, those they love, those they hate, etc. As they gain more experiences, those illusions multiply and intermingle, sometimes even crossing paths with the Ego (自我, Jiga?) or the Alter Ego (自我の別像, Jiga no Betsu Zō?). Due to this, the human Heart (心, Kokoro?) and Spirit (精神, Seishin?) can be described as a Single World (一世界, Ichi Sekai?) containing multiple personalities. Ancient scholars refer to this Inner World, which is not unlike a planet, as a Microcosm (小宇宙, Shōuchū?). This Celestial Body is considered vast and boundless, liberated from the restraints of time and space.[1]
According to Habetrot, the Mental World of an entity with a Saint Graph at the level of a Divine Spirit would likely be about the size of a single city. However, she claims that it wouldn't be surprising if the Contents (中身, Nakami?) of Metatron Jeanne, an Archangel, were an entire universe.[4]
It is a common occurrence for magi that are transferring Magic Crests to enter each others Inner Worlds during the procedure. However, this is not physically occurring, and is only mental. A "reverse Reality Marble" situation where the two participants enter each other's Inner Worlds and their physical bodies are taken with them has only been reported three or four times in the history of the Clock Tower.[5]
Structure
Mental Landscape
As its name implies, a Mental Landscape (心象風景, Shinshō Fūkei?, alternatively "Mindscape") is the landscape formed inside a person's Inner World.[citation needed]
Chaldea's technology allows people to enter the Mental Landscape of a Servant.[6] The Mental Landscapes Chaldea has visited include:
- Amakusa Shirou Tokisada: Amakusa's mindscape resembles the Shimabara Hell.[7]
- Diarmuid Ua Duibhne: It contains a forest where Diarmuid used to hunt, which is also the place he passed when he ran away with his lover. This landscape has guardians, which operate like White Cells protecting a human body. Defeating these guardians restores Diarmuid's Noble Phantasms.[6]
- Marie Antoinette: Marie's Mental Landscape resembles The Tour du Temple, the place where she awaited execution.[8]
- Minamoto-no-Raikou: A dark place. Raikou's Mental Landscape is dark because she had lost sight of everything else.[9]
- Mordred: Mordred's Mental Landscape is the Hill of Camlann.[10]
- Tristan: Tristan's Mental World is a grassy plain. It's peaceful, yet boring.[11]
In the South American Lostbelt, when Beni-enma Alter became Iztaccíhuatl's guardian, the underworld was overwritten with Enma's mindscape,[12] causing it to become infused with Buddhisim's concept of Hell.[13]
Way of the Heart
The Way of the Heart (心の在り方, Kokoro no Arikata?),[Note 1] is implied to be the fundamental mechanism that shapes a person's Mental Landscape.[citation needed] It is due to its freedom that Inner Worlds don't have topographical consistency. For example, it would be possible to find an ocean in the middle of a city, or a snowy mountain in the heart of a desert, when visiting one.[14]
Known Ways of the Heart:
- Xuanzang Sanzang[15]
- Leonidas I[16]
- Mash Kyrielight: Mash's Way of Heart is a fortress that lasts forever, not because it never breaks, but because it always stands up after doing so. It is represented by her Noble Phantasm Mold Camelot.[17]
- Kirschtaria Wodime: According to Ophelia Phamrsolone, Kirschtaria's Way of the Heart, his innate stature, was different from that of the other Crypters. He was surely a person born to be a King.[18]
- Earth: Since the Earth is so large, it contains multiple Ways of the Heart. For example, a "Heart adjacent to human society" or a "Heart that wishes to voice an opinion on human society". Avalon is nothing more than one of those "Ways of Being". It is a world leans toward nature and doesn't involve itself with human society.[19]
- Chloe von Einzbern: While Chloe acts as a "bad girl," she shares the same Way of the Heart as Illya. She likes fun things, mischief, her brother, and also being mean to the weak. However, she hates sadness more than anything.[20]
Physical Manifestations
Magic Circuits
If one were to liken a person's human body to a Microcosm, their Magic Circuits would be akin to its celestial bodies.[21]
Extracting and amplifying the Magic Circuits of a person can transform their Microcosm into a Conceptual Universe.[22] The most notable examples are:
- Greater Holy Grail of Fuyuki: The key component of the Greater Holy Grail are Justeaze Lizrich von Einzbern's Magic Circuits, which were extracted, enlarged and multiplied inside the Ryuudou cavern.[23][22] These Magic Circuits, almost a kilometer in diameter,[23] are a special case of a human's microcosm being turned into a universe.[23][22]
- Ars Paulina: Goetia's Reality Marble shares the same nature as the Greater Holy Grail; it is a microcosm created with Solomon's Magic Circuits as its foundation. This makes the Final Singularity was a Miniature World, as well as a Conceptual Universe. However, while it was regarded as a universe, it doesn't have any celestial bodies in it, so on a human scale, it would be the size of a single cell.[22]
Reality Marbles
- Main article: Reality Marble
A Reality Marble is a a variation of Marble Phantasm;[2] a Bounded Field that gives form to the practitioner’s Mental World,[2][24][25][26][27][3] also called Inner World,[28] and allows it to erode reality.[24] By ovewriting reality with their Way of the Heart,[27] they are able to reproduce their Mental Landscape.[29][30][28][19][31]
A Reality Marble is an application of the World Egg Magecraft Theory.[25][32][29] It consists on switching the "Self" and the "World" while keeping the boundary between them exactly as it is. In this moment, the sizes of the Self and the World are inverted; the World is completely enclosed within a tiny container. This small boundary is the "World Egg," which gives the theory its name.[29] This effect is regarded as turning inside out the Map of the World (世界図, Sekai-zu?) of the practitioner's soul.[25]
A Reality Marble is like a stain that is formed on reality, a foreign object and a contradiction to the World itself. As such, whenever the World detects one, it applies a correction.[27] This is why it is generally impossible to maintain a Reality Marble for an extended period of time,[30] only lasting a few minutes at most.[27] The only known exception is constructing the Reality Marble inside the body of a living creature.[30] Most notable cases of this happening include:
- Doomsday Come: A pseudo Reality Marble Pale Rider's belly.
- Inner Sea of the Planet: The Inner Sea of the Planet is the planet Earth's Reality Marble, a manifestation of its Mental Landscape.[19]
- Tunguska Special Territory: The entire terrioty, including its outer shell, was actually Tamamo Vitch Koyanskaya's Saint Graph, which had been expanded to contain the entire Tunsguka Forest.[30]
- Metatron Jeanne's Third Noble Phantasm: A Mental World inside Metatron Jeanne's womb. The Mental World within Metatron's body is an endless road and a library. Within the library, Metatron's inner self governs over the process of turning the target brought into the space into a Ruler. At the same time, it may also be possible for this space to allow one to open the path to a brand new Class entirely.[33][4][3]
According to Chaldea's records, the Prison Tower is a pseudo-reality (疑似的な現実, Giji-tekina Genjitsu?), a pseudo-world (疑似的な世界, Giji-tekina Sekai?), created from mind rather than matter. It is a mindscape made manifest, similar yet different from a Reality Marble. It is a Bounded Field made to trap souls and minds. It is a mental world that contains multiple souls, and operates as a fully functional immaterial reality.[34]
Tradition Protection
- Main article: Tradition Protection
A Tradition Protection is a Severed World (絶界, Zekkai?) that does not align with reality or Human Order. It is a Mental World —a materialization of fantasies said to be possessed by Fairies. In the modern era, it’s a Mystery among Mysteries, said to be held only by the Ploy Kickshaw.[35]
Known Tradition Protections:
- Ploy Kickshaw: According to Alice Kuonji, Ploy Kickshaw differs significantly from a Reality Marble. A Reality Marble is analogous to putting a box made of ice, the mages' Inner World, atop the picture of a puzzle, the Texture. Though appearing to be overwriting the picture, when the ice melts, the picture below won't have changed. On the other hand, Meinster Witches change the picture of the world without being noticed by it. Not by putting something else above it, but by changing the pieces themselves.[36] Ploys are unable to communicate with each other, and there's no sharing of order. Whatever doesn't exist in their world of fairy tales and what they don't understand will evaporate without touching them. It is like they're in a conceptual space (概念空間, Gainen Kūkan?) or Conceptual Universe, so only magical energy with the same Mystery will work on them.[37]
- Wandering Sea: The Wandering Sea is a mountain surrounded by a body of water. This sea acts as a separate world that drifts between the Earth's Textures, keeping the island's location secret at all times.[38][39][40] Due to this, it is considered an Independent Singularity (独立した特異点, Dokuritsu Shita Tokui-ten?),[39] a place that cannot be observed by any means created by or relying upon science.[40] This is how it was able to escape the Bleaching during the Human Order Revision Incident.[39][40]

Reality Marble. This is an "alien common sense" possessed by beings called demons, but it now refers to a unique Bounded Field that many types of beings have come to possess.
It is a variation of Marble Phantasm; a Bounded Field that gives form to the practitioner’s Mental World and allows it to erode reality. It is the magecraft closest to True Magic and is categorized as a "Forbidden Curse" by the Mage’s Association.
The difference between this and Marble Phantasm is that its form cannot be freely determined. Because it is the manifestation of the practitioner's one and only Inner Self, the practitioner cannot exert their will over the Bounded Field's form. However, it could be argued that it is superior to Marble Phantasm in the sense that it can influence things that are not "natural."
On one hand, you have Marble Phantasm, where one can set the world's parameters as they please, but can only influence themselves (nature spirits) and nature. On the other hand, you have the Reality Marble, which is limited to a single pattern but forces everything to obey its own rules. Both allow for total mastery while possessing limitations; they are "Alien World Creation" methods that are similar yet fundamentally different.
Originally, this was an ability exclusive to spirits and demons, but over many years, magecraft to give shape to an individual's Mental World was perfected, enabling some high-level practitioners to form Reality Marbles. However, if anything other than a spirit (which is an extension of nature) creates an alien world, the World itself will attempt to crush that divergent reality. Consequently, maintaining a Reality Marble requires vast amounts of energy, and as a result, an individual’s Reality Marble lasts for only a few minutes.
It is said that most of the Twenty-Seven Ancestors are capable of using Reality Marbles. Incidentally, Nrvnqsr (Nero) avoided the "Correction of the World" by making his own body the Reality Marble. Not bad, Professor Nero.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 3.2 Fate/Grand Order: Ordeal Call - Trinity Metatronius: Courtroom for Humanity's Judgement, Section 22: What Should You Do?

As for Justeaze herself, she still exists within the center of the Great Holy Grail. The circuitry covering the surface of the crater in the cavern is actually her magic circuits, enlarged and multiplied.

A Reality Marble, or innate barrier, is magic that manifests one’s mental landscape. Upon activation, the surrounding space is converted into a completely different landscape.
The actualization of the internal landscape is explained by the “World Egg” magical theory, described in the diagrams below. A Reality Marble is the result of switching the Self and the World while keeping the boundary the same. At this time, the sizes of the Self and the World are swapped, and the World is confined in a small container. This miniature world is the titular World Egg for which the theory is named.
Magical theory: World egg

A representative example of a Reality Marble is Unlimited Blade Works, used by Emiya Shirou and Archer. This Reality Marble changes the entire world in the vicinity of the caster into a space where swords are accumulated, and any swords the user has seen even once become easily Projected. The mental landscape is one that seems like an ironworks or a forge — an endless field in which countless swords are planted, sparks leap through the air, and titanic gears grind in the distance. Due to the characteristic of being mental landscapes, Shirou’s and Archer’s Unlimited Blade Works closely resemble each other, but are different.

Reality Marble incantation
Emiya Shirou and Archer must speak an incantation longer than five bars to use their Reality Marbles. The following is Shirou’s incantation:
ENGLISH (JAPANESE)
I am the bone of my sword. (My body is made of swords.)
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood. (My blood is iron, and my heart is glass.)
I have created over a thousand blades. (I have overcome countless battlefields.)
Unaware of loss, (Never once retreating,)
nor aware of gain. (nor attaining victory.)
Withstood pain to create weapons. (The bearer is here, alone,)
Waiting for one’s arrival. (forging iron atop a hill of swords.)
I have no regrets. This is the only path. (Therefore, my life requires no meaning.)
My entire life was “unlimited blade works.” (This body was made of infinite swords.)

I am the bone of my sword. Steel is my body, fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unaware of loss.
Nor aware of gain.
Withstood pain to create weapons. waiting for one's arrival.
