Profile
Background
The embodiment of the Ideal Magecraft handed down through the Animusphere family. Maris CHALDEAS is CHALDEAS Mk. 2 (カルデアスⅡ号機, Karudeasu II-gōki?), a Pseudo-Universe Model (疑似宇宙モデル, Giji Uchū Moderu?) deployed within the hollow core of the pseudo-Earth model, Olga Chaldeas.[1] Maris' true identity is that of a replica of the Swirl of the Root (根源の渦のレプリカ, Kongen no Uzu no Repurika?) created by Marisbury Animusphere. However, she isn't a duplicate of the Root created from scratch, but rather, a system akin to a mirror reflecting the Root to a new location.[2]
She is also Beast VII, one of the seven Evils of Humanity, the Beast possessing the Logos of "Analysis" (『解析』の理, “Kaiseki” no Kotowari?), called by Sherlock to be "the elucidator of all the world's secrets." A universe without substance and an analytical device who can understand any and all results but never knows the process of how they came to be, who can make and use galaxies but not understand their histories, and who understands human history better than anyone yet does not respect it.[2]
Appearance
The space within the Testament Universe is considered to be Beast VII itself. The central object is the control system, in which Olga Chaldeas is also contained.[2] Maris possesses a female voice that speaks in a human manner, while her Navigator function speaks in a more robotic version of the same voice.[3]
Maris uses the avatar known to Chaldea as the Priestess of the Alien World to observe Chaldea over the course of their journey,[4] though Olga is the personality controlling the vessel.[3] Maris' Navigator (ナビゲーター, Nabigētā?) function takes control of it upon Chaldea's arrival into CHALDEAS.[4]
Personality
Marisbury Animusphere incorporated the personality and soul of his own daughter, Olga Marie, as the control system for the pseudo-Earth model. For the pseudo-universe model, however, he granted no trace of human morality or values—only a singular directive: a universe capable of always selecting the correct answer. During the final battle with Chaldea, Maris inadvertently provides her enemies with various opportunities to thwart her, such as providing Solomon the opportunity to utilize Ars Nova.[5]
Role
Fate/Grand Order
CHALDEAS is first activated in 2004 after Marisbury wins the Holy Grail War.[6] Unlike the control system for Olga Chaldeas, Olga Marie Animusphere, the Pseudo-Universe Model is not given human values. Marisbury only inputs the directionality of "a universe that can choose the correct answer." At some point, the personality that comes to call itself Maris Chaldeas emerges within the pseudo-universe.[1]
At some point after his death, Maris creates an AI replica of Marisbury.[5] Due to Maris not understanding her creator,[7] the replica is based on who Maris believes Marisbury to be, 80% identical to the real person and 20% based on Maris' original ideas, her hopes, of who Marisbury was as a person.[5]
Singularity F
After Lev Lainur Flauros inserts Olga Marie Animusphere into CHALDEAS earlier than planned at the conclusion of Singularity F,[8] she lands in CHALDEAS-Earth in the year 2015,[9] where she is experimented on as Specimen E. Maris considers the unexpected activities to be a "thrilling plot twist," personally invested in watching "what form the inevitable doom was going to take."[8] Maris predicts that upon Specimen E's termination that her nerve fibers will eradicate humanity, giving the AI replica of Marisbury the message, "You won't need to dirty your own hands to erase the surface civilization. Object X, already on site, will eradicate mankind for you."[8]
Fate/Grand Order: Observer on Timeless Temple
London: Death World in the Demonic Fog City
At some point prior to the resolution of the Fourth Singularity, Maris summons Sherlock Holmes as her first Servant[4] and first Apostle for the purpose of █████ (unable to be spoken by Holmes).[10] As Maris is the "elucidator of all the world's secrets," Holmes' nature as a "revealer" compels him to answer the summoning. Due to Maris' belittlement of human history while claiming to defend it, Holmes begins to doubt his Master and the reason for his summoning. Prior to arriving at the solution of Maris' true nature, he stops his deductions to avoid being erased.[4]
Sixth Singularity: Camelot
Maris sends Holmes to the Sixth Singularity to find Tri-Hermes, where he utilizes it to seal away his own memories at Maris' command and join with Chaldea.[4] Sion Eltnam Sokaris later posits that Holmes' order from Maris is to help Chaldea reach a certain point in their journey, believing it to be the Atlantic Lostbelt, and then to either stop helping them or destroy it from within after that.[11]
Epic of Remnant
Within CHALDEAS-Earth, Specimen E dies in 2117, causing Olga to properly be integrated into CHALDEAS as originally planned. Due to Olga coming to believe that she truly is an alien being, the Fantasy Trees divert from their intended purpose and invade CHALDEAS-Earth to reclaim Olga's Magic Circuits, whitening the world as Maris needed. The mind of Olga is then repurposed to become the Alien God, U-Olga Marie, management device of Earth[8] and Servant leader of the Apostles.[12] Maris begins calling herself the Alien God (異星の神, Isei no Kami?, lit. "God of Another Planet", localized as Foreign God) while speaking to her collaborators, acting the role of the Alien God planning to descend to the Earth,[13] and CHALDEAS-Earth becomes known as the Alien World (異星, Isei?, lit. "Another Planet", localized as Foreign Planet).[14]
After CHALDEAS-Earth is fully whitened, Maris summons Galahad (different from the Galahad fused with Mash) as the first Servant within CHALDEAS. While it would have been impossible normally for Maris to summon a Servant of Proper Human History within the Alien World of CHALDEAS, the experiment to merge Galahad with Mash Kyrielight formed a bond between Chaldea and Galahad that Maris uses. Utilizing Galahad in the same manner as Mash using Lord Camelot to summon Servants, Maris summons multiple Servants and repurposes them into the Apostles. Galahad is stationed as the gatekeeper of CHALDEAS at Antarctica after CHALDEAS-Earth and Earth are swapped, where Lilith is summoned and Galahad becomes her Master.[14]
Some time after Tamamo Vitch Koyanskaya became a candidate for Beast IV on January 1st, 2017, Maris makes contact with her, entering into a contract, stating, “I will not eliminate you. In return, you will not comprehend me. We will both abide by our respective principles and see this planet through to its end.” One of the stipulations Maris makes Koyanskaya agree to is to not reveal her name of her own accord. Koyanskaya goes on to obfuscate her identity by pretending to be one of the Apostles alongside Rasputin and Douman,[15] while starting to further her own goals of eventually taking both Chaldea and the descending Alien God, U-Olga Marie, as her tails.[16]
The form in which the "God" appeared before the Crypters.
Maris decides to utilize Crypters, Team A of Chaldea who perished in Lev's bombing, in her plans. The Crypters were meant to be utilized by Marisbury as sacrifices to destroy the Human Order Foundation, and Maris finds it "unsettling" that they were discarded without the chance to act. She decides that if they were meant to die that they could be placed into alternate worlds that were doomed to parish, considering them to be resources that shouldn't be wasted.[17] Maris appears to Kirschtaria Wodime under the pretense of being the Alien God,[13] stating that she "wept to see the state of this planet, and decided to grace it with their presence."[18]
Maris tells Kirschtaria that each Crypter requires an "an accomplishment worthy of overturning their death" to revive them,[19] each requiring a certain amount of energy for resurrection, the same amount needed to solve the Incineration of Humanity.[20] Maris creates a customized world, "worlds that might have been, yet were never meant to be," in which Kirschtaria is able to perform the same journey as Ritsuka Fujimaru to save humanity.[19] Maris provides minimal support in allowing the use of Chaldea's summoning system to summon Servants.[20] Kirschtaria manages to complete the journey, rendered injured and fatigued. Maris speaks with him, saying utilizing words is an insufficent way of communication, overheard by Ophelia Phamrsolone due to her Mystic Eyes. Maris explains Kirschtaria being a Crypter makes him perfect to spread the word of the Alien God and prepare a body for the Alien God's descent.[13]
Kirschtaria speaks up, stating that the other Crypters are necessary to be revived as well. Maris is confused that Kirschtaria would willingly bring competition to himself, especially where Kirschtaria himself is sufficient, but allows him to revive the others if the same price is paid for each of them.[13] As the other Crypters lack bodies in their Rayshift coffins, Kirschtaria must bear the burden for them five more times to allow for their revival, completing the journey with each Crypter,[19] excluding Daybit Sem Void,[20] who each perish before the end of the journey.[19] Daybit manages to clear the simulation of the Incineration Incident on his own without Servant support, generating the energy for his revival on his own.[20]

« "...Circumstantial change confirmed. I have a proposal for you chosen ones. An offer for those of you who were cast aside. If you desire acclamation, then choose rebirth. If you desire indolence, then choose eternal sleep. It makes no difference to God. I have descended upon this world from another. The Fantasy Trees will reset this world. From there, it will create new mythology. Crush Proper Human History. Construct new gods with your own hands. Create laws that are capable of accepting me." » |
| (Maris talking to the Crypters) |
Maris then approaches the remaining Crypters, proposing their resurrection.[21] They all choose to be revived,[21] only Ophelia knowing of Kirschtaria's actions to revive them,[13] granted a Lostbelt and a Servant to summon, tasked with nurturing the Fantasy Trees and expanding the Lostbelts, eventually creating the stage for the Alien God's descent.[21]
Shimousa Province: The Stage of Carnage
Drifter Amakusa Shirou Tokisada comes into contact with Maris during his travels between worlds. He comes to believe Maris, who he calls Satan, is a god who had its brethren slaughtered, much like his own comrades in the Shimabara Rebellion, coming to worship Satan feverishly. Through Maris, Amakusa learns of Chaldea and the possibility of them thwarting his plan, and gains knowledge of a ritual, the manifestation of Shimabara Hell, which he attributes to Satan.[22]
Apostle Ashiya Douman is sent out to find data and interfere with Chaldea, appearing in the Shimosa Subcategory Singularity where Amakusa is also present. Though his plans to manifest within Chaldea do not come to fruition, he states that the data gathered and finding Shimosa, a "micro-Lostbelt,"[23] is of great benefit.[24] During this time, Douman refers to Maris as Satan Who Art As Lucifero (ルチフェロなりしサタン, Luchifero-narishi Satan?, localized as "the Great Satan, Lucifer Himself"), mostly as a jest, but continues using it due to Amakusa's fondness of the name as a means of worship. He apologizes to Maris, whose name is obscured at the time due to being a "great curse upon the entire world."[24]
Cosmos in the Lostbelt
Prologue
On December 31, 2017 after Chaldea's apparent shutdown, Maris swaps Earth and Chaldeas using a method similar to Displacement Magecraft, making it look like the Earth is being whitened by the Fantasy Tree canopy.
After three months rewriting the World's Texture, it dispersed the branches, leaving the planet in a blank state and isolated from the universe, where the Lostbelts eventually expand and engulf it, usurping the Proper Human History.[25]
Maris is primarily focused on only Kirschtaria, showing no interest in the other Crypters. Maris completely ignores Daybit, never giving him an order or giving acknowledgment that he's free to do what he pleases, Koyanskaya later assuming Maris holds no authority over Daybit at all and treats him more akin to an equal than a subordinate.[20]
At some point the Alien World summoned Senji Muramasa as one of its apostles to ensure the "God" descent can proceed as planned.[26]
Traum
Due to the first Apostle's failure to take Chaldea out of the picture, the Alien World summoned James Moriarty to remind the detective of his original role or punish him for his betrayal or perhaps both things.[27][10]
Ordeal Call
Trinity Metatronius: Courtroom for the Judgment of Mankind
After the establishment of the Reckoning Singularity by Dante Alighieri, Metatron Jeanne takes it over, requiring Galahad as the core to maintain the Singularity and taking him from Antarctica. Maris is unable to account for such an event, causing CHALDEAS to lose Galahad as the gatekeeper. Galahad chooses to disappear in Singularity to help Chaldea, and states Mash's change to the Paladin class, Maris no longer able to simulate the future due to being different from Galahad, is a key to stopping Maris' previously unshakable victory.[14]
Abilities
Maris CHALDEAS is a replica of the Swirl of the Root created by Marisbury Animusphere to secure the Human Order. The Root is defined as the place where all events began. The divine coordinates where the results of past, present, and future swirl. It is theoretically impossible to acquire the “ ” that contains all events, including those in parallel worlds, as a physical substance. The reason for this, is that there doesn't exist a vessel with enough storage capacity to contain it. Constructing such a vessel would require an infinite amount of time, so the universe would reach heat death before any form of intelligent life ever finished constructing it. Due to this, creating the Swirl of the Root from scratch is considered akin to creating a whole new universe.[2]
However, Marisbury was able to circumvent this restriction by simply reflecting the already existing Swirl of the Root to another location, Maris CHALDEAS. Maris CHALDEAS is a Pseudo-Universe created in the Hollow World inside CHALDEAS-Earth's inner core. She is the culmination of Marisbury Animusphere plan, having come into being after using countless Fantasy Trees to simulate all galaxies in the Observable Universe. By blocking Earth's contact with outer space using a canopy formed by the Fantasy Trees' branches, the Universe was tricked into thinking that all celestial bodies currently resided on Earth. Due to this, it began a Universe Update, linking Maris CHALDEAS to the universe following a geocentric model and erasing all existence beyond the canopy.[2]
Original Testament Universe - Seven Tree Fulcrum
Before the Universe Update was fully completed, Maris CHALDEAS' Original Testament Universe (原初証明宇宙, Gensho Shōmei Uchū?) inside the Hollow World was supported by the Seven Tree Fulcrum (支柱七樹, Shichū Nanaki?), remnants of the Fantasy Trees seen throughout the previous Lostbelts. The reason for this is that the Hollow World is the original Lostbelt, hence why there was a Storm Wall beneath the CHALDEAS-Earth's crust.
The Fantasy Trees are:
Each of the first seven Lostbelts is capable of firing a Stellar Class supernova equal in power to Goetia's Bands of Light. Together, the seven supernovas are regarded the greatest firepower Maris CHALDEAS can muster. Despite their incredible firepower, Lev Goetia, a Grand Caster whose Existence Scale is 1/72 that of the original Goetia, was able to redirect them at the cost of his own life thanks to his specialty at manipulating Light. Before being burned by the heat, Lev Goetia used the gathered magical energy to power Ars Nova, erasing Maris CHALDEAS' Nega-Summon preventing Novum Chaldea from summoning Servants.
It should be noted that while the Fantasy Trees represent Maris CHALDEAS' greatest offensive asset, they are also her biggest weakness. As the elements supporting the Hollow World, destroying them causes the Pseudo-Universe to peel off, greatly weakening her. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Lostbelt Servants, Proper Human History's Servants, and Novum Chaldea's Grand Servant, they were able to excise all eight Fantasy Trees. Paladin Mash was the one to deliver the final blow to Maris' main unit using Rayproof Kyrielight.
Skills
Class Skills
- Authority of the Beast (EX Rank): Also known as Anti-Human Order. This skill represents the culmination of a uniquely humanoid mode of thought: the drive to illuminate the unknown. However, to fully unveil the principles governing the universe is to strip everything bare—reducing all existence to a blank slate, to absolute zero.[1]
- Independent Manifestation (E- Rank): The capacity to manifest in the physical world as an independent entity. Though a mighty Beast, its emergence carries an inescapable condition: it must be brought into being through human hands.[1]
- Bounded Field Creation (EX Rank): As a replica of the Swirl of the Root itself, Beast VII possesses the power to freely reshape the world within the bounds of its perceptual domain.[1]
Personal Skills
- Universal Analysis (EX Rank): An Authority that enables the complete replication of any existing phenomenon—whether artifact, technology, or living being. The copy faithfully reproduces only the fundamental framework, the constituent materials, and the accumulated passage of time. It cannot replicate the originating creative intent, the techniques of manufacture, or the experiences of growth and refinement. Even the unique Authorities possessed by other Beasts, such as Beast I's Nega-Summon, can be duplicated and wielded through this ability.[1]
- Nega-Summon: Maris CHALDEA used Goetia's Beast authority to prevent Novum Chaldea from summoning Servants from Proper Human History. However, she lost access to this ability after Lev Goetia sacrificed himself by utilising Ars Nova to remove the last remnants of both Solomon and Goetia, and therefore Nega Summon itself.[2] Ritsuka Fujimaru also realises prior to this that the Nega-Summon doesn't work against Servants that CHALDEAS itself has summoned in the past such as the Apostle of the Alien World, nor against Servants not aligned or compatible with Proper Human History such as those of the Lostbelts created by its Fantasy Trees.[4]
- Nega-Earth (EX Rank): A phenomenon-rewriting function that outright denies the current physical laws defining Earth’s existence. It propagates and enforces across the entire cosmos the single “correct” set of principles as decreed by Beast VII. Both the Lostbelts and their Fantasy Trees were derived from this Authority.[1] This ability involves the Negation of "Substance" within her hollow world, automatically eliminating anything with substance by means of removing "meaning". Using this, Maris CHALDEAS was able to instantly defeat Novum Chaldea and completely bypass the defenses of the Storm Border, beginning to break it down at the molecular level. This is done through the pink mist that surrounds the Main System, a Sea of Information (情報の海?) with each droplet being on the scale of a Lostbelt and which acts as a jammer, making it impossible to see anything and able to hide incoming attacks on par with Fantasy Trees. This mist forces objects to gradually lose their meaning from the sheer informational pressure exerted on them, vaguely similar to a hydraulic pressure.[4] Sherlock Holmes was able to dispel it using his Noble Phantasm Elementary, My Dear, which transformed the mist surrounding the Storm Border into simpler information.
Noble Phantasm
Maris CHALDEAS' Noble Phantasm is Anima Animusphere.
