Curses (呪い, Noroi?) and Hexes (呪詛, Jusou?) are imposed destinies or karma[1] placed upon someone usually to bring misfortune and calamity.[2] However, not all of them bring negative effects and can even serve as a blessing, such as God Hand.[3]
Mechanics[]
Curses can be imposed by many different supernatural means such as Magecraft, Authority[4] or by Dead Apostles.[5] Curses can be incredibly powerful, with some even being close to Magic, such as the curse of Gáe Bolg.[6]
Before a curse is imposed, they can be overpowered and swept away with magical energy surpassing that of the curse, such as a shield with more magical energy[7] or with Magecraft.[8] Another curse with superior magical energy can also be used, as seen when Ciel utilized her Idea Blood to overpower Noel's Mystic Eyes of Roses.[9]
Curses normally exhibit little physical effects, however when loaded with more magical energy, they can have a powerful physical effect. This is the case with Gandr, which is a curse that can turn into a magical bullet with power equal to real bullets.[10]
As curses are imposed destinies/karma, once they have taken effect they will never disappear. The only way to release oneself from it is to transfer it onto someone else, a process which is called Curse Transfer (回呪, Kai Noroi?). Besides that the lifting of a curse, Curse Release (解呪, Kaiju?), is a rare trait on the same level as Daemon exorcism. Since it entails erasing human destiny, only so far the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception can do so.[1] Sword Saints such as Miyamoto Musashi can also cut curses that have been imposed with techniques like Six Realms Five Rings - The Divine Figure of Kurikara.[11]
A theory has it that minstrel culture grew out of techniques for passing on the oral traditions of the Druidic Mysteries to posterity.[12][13] According to Alexandre Dumas, contemporary song and poetry shouldn't be underestimated due to this. "If you make someone hear something every night as a bedtime story, it’s plenty possible for it to alter their Soul like a Curse, or a Blessing."[12]
Dead Apostle[]
- Main article: Dead Apostles
Dead Apostles possess many abilities based on their curse of vampirism such as the Curse of Restoration.[14] Once they reach rank V the curse in their blood starts to manifest itself as a special ability.[15] Once they reach rank VI it has become a proper Principle.[9]

The Galliasta's Primeval Curse that takes from others and gives to themselves.
Curse Arts (呪術, Jujutsu?) is a Magecraft System based around curses and hexes. The exact nature of curses vary widely based on the region and lineage, but in general they all function to bring misfortune and calamity.[2] Using the bare minimum of magical energy to produce the absolute maximum effect, wrenching open an otherwise guarded mind with mundane psychology, is said to be the fundamental technique of magecraft such as Curses, at least in Western Magecraft.[16]
Many other Magecraft Systems also employ curses, such as Black Magic,[17] Necromancy[18] and Runes.[19] Because the study of curses is looked down upon as unscholarly by the Clock Tower, they have fallen far behind the Middle East in that particular field.[20][21]
Mechanics[]
Curses that amplify in power after the caster's death are fairly common,[2] and in certain Magecraft Systems it is said that the accuracy of curses increases dozens of times just by knowing a person's name.[22] Rewriting someone's true nature by attempting to alter their True Names without permission, like demonizing the deity of an enemy nation by calling them a demon or making fun of a disliked politician by giving them a silly nickname, is considered a primitive form of curse.[23]
Poisoning (蠱毒, Kodoku?) is a technical term related to magecraft. A magus would gather a number of creatures, typically poisonous snakes and spiders, and sometimes even things like giant centipedes and scorpions, and would put them all in a small pot and force them to kill and cannibalize each other. Whichever particular one managed to survive until the end would be used as a catalyst for Curse Arts. It is a pretty widespread practice in continental Asia, and isn't limited to poisonous or venomous creatures either. There were even examples of people doing the same with cats, dogs, and even wolves.[24]
Eastern Curse Arts[]
Eastern Curse Arts is primarily based on compensation, such as using one's own body parts to cast curses such as in the case with Tamamo-no-Mae's DakinitenWP Methods (ダキニ天法, Dakiniten Hō?).[25]
As a result of the curses being very different based on the individual, the Middle East's curse practitioners do not have a single unified organization in the same way that Europe has the Clock Tower or Asia has the Spiral Manor.[26] Curses are used predominately in the Middle East, though also in other regions such as India. Middle Eastern Curses are a Magecraft System specialized in functioning inside of the casting magus' body; for example, giving one's body animal parts, or stretching one's arm several meters.[27]
Shaping Mystery inside one's own body provides a very simple upside: unlike with external magecraft, the World does little to resist it. This means that curses have a much longer duration and less magical energy cost to receive an equivalent output in Western magecraft. However this practice also has a downside, that being that everyone's body is different. While curses being internal mean they don't have as many restrictions and limitations as Western Magecraft, everybody having a slightly different biology means that there is little common ground between curse practitioners. Because curses develop and mature in the bodies of different people, there is significantly less leeway to teach them compared to other forms of magecraft. This means students have to pull a lot from personal experience, and results in a wide difference between the taught curse and learned curse.[27]
There are Curse Arts based on transforming one's own body and giving it different properties. While not all formulae are like this, Curse Arts completed within one's own body are not influenced by the environment.[28] Just like other mysteries something smaller is more difficult than making it larger especially for Curse Arts, only someone like Wuzhiqi who uses Curse Arts from the Age of Gods is able to easily make use of Curse Arts to make something smaller.[29] She is able to turn her hair into a weapon, capable of slicing through bedrock, turning her skin into something tougher than any metal in the world and sprout multiple extra arms similar to a Thousand-Armed Kannon. By using her "True Curse Arts" she was able to bind Zepia with his own shadow after piercing it with her claws, with enough magical energy to bind a small country. Rearranging the body is merely the first step, above a certain level Curse Arts cause supernatural phenomena by further using that rearranged body as a formula.[29]
Cursed Boundary Layer[]
The Cursed Boundary Layer (呪層界, Jusōkai?) utilized by Sakura Matou makes a cursed shadow expand itself around her and uses it for teleporting herself, repairing physical damage, restraining and consuming others,[30] tentacle attacks and generating her Shadow Giants. Created by the combination of her Hollow Element, the magecraft of Matou family and Angra Mainyu's power.
In Fate/EXTRA, Tamamo-no-Mae explained that Cursed Boundary Layer was a world turned inside out with hatred only to kill a target and he could not get out of it unless removing the cause. Tamamo-no-Mae seems to use it, too. Archer said it was created with magical energy flowing backward and similar to a Reality Marble but different.
Gandr[]
- Main article: Gandr
Gandr (ガンド, Gando?) is a simple curse originating from Scandinavia, which decreases the physical health of the target.[31]
Geis[]
| Involved parties | Incantations |
|---|---|
| Rin Tohsaka's contract with Shirou Emiya[32] | 「―――Satz. |
| Contract used by Kiritsugu Emiya[33] | Binding Magecraft: Target – Kiritsugu Emiya |
The practice of establishing a GeisWP (強制, Kyōsei?) is forming a curse over a target that imposes a mystical restriction over one's action with the consent of both parties. Rin describes it as something that cannot be used readily as it is one of the worst curses.[32]
The version she uses on Shirou Emiya forces him to not go against any of her commands for the duration of the Holy Grail War. The verses of the Incantation travel through his nerves to become infused into his body and mind, and the binding of the spell, described as a "second heart", is placed right next to his heart.[32] It is similar to a Command Spell used on a Servant, but it is not almighty in its applications. It cannot be used to command anything to do his own life, but it can be used to bind him at her own command. Once Shirou plans on going against Rin's wishes of killing Sakura Matou, he finds that he cannot move his body at all to stop her. He is immediately freed upon Sakura's death, as there is no longer any reason to bind him.[32]
Geis: Oath (誓約, Seiyaku?), also known as Geis: Holy Oath (聖誓, Seisei?), is the one placed upon Cú Chulainn that forces him to yield in battle against an Ulster-born adversary wielding Caladbolg.[34]
One even more merciless version of a geis is a Self-Geis Scroll (セルフギアス・スクロール, Serufu-Giasu Sukurōru?).[33] Placing a written contract upon a scroll of vellum that would appear as only meaningless figures and well-made patterns to those who are not magi, it is a curse that directly binds the Magic Crest of the target.[33] The signature of the declarer is signed in blood and infused with magical energy to show that the spell has been established and activated. The contract lists the target of the binding magecraft, an oath from the target, and the conditions to accept the contract.[33]
Once the conditions are fulfilled, the target will give up part of their free will, and the contract will be confirmed as an unbreakable curse. It forcibly uses the functions of the targets' Magic Crests upon themselves to enforce the contract, and it is a power unable to be erased by any method in theory. Even if the caster's life is lost, the Magic Crest would bind the soul of the dead man and not pass down to future generations.[33] It is a very dangerous magecraft made for the treacherous society of magi where a contract involving offering a maximal concession that absolutely cannot be disobeyed is required.[33]

Legend
A demigod hero of Greek Mythology, he was born between the King of Gods Zeus and a human girl. He received the violent hatred of Zeus' wife Hera because of his origins and was tormented by the goddess at every turn. However, he entirely overcame the difficulties he had been given, and was enshrined as a god in the end.
Heracles had an extremely violent temperament as an infant, and grew up as a shepherd in order to obtain a gentle heart. Having grown into a fine adult, Heracles was recognized for several feats, and gained two children as well as the right of succession to the throne. However, Hera made Heracles go temporarily insane and he killed his wife and children, ending up in the role of a slave to the king to atone for his sins. Here the jealous king gave him a challenge, the famous Twelve Labors. The Labors were all things that a human could not achieve but Heracles completed them safely, and at the same time he was freed from slavery, he received an immortal body.
However, the adventures of Heracles and Hera's hatred did not end there. Hera's numerous artifices resulted in Heracles' poisoning by his own wife from his second marriage. In his final moments, Heracles cremated himself, surrendering to Zeus's judgment. The gods after consulting recognize Heracles' feats, and he was recruited as a god like his father, becoming a constellation.
Tactics
An excellent warrior, he possesses the qualifications corresponding to six classes excluding Caster. Other than specializing with the bow, he has mastered every weapon. However, all that is talk about times when he is not Berserker. Heracles as a Berserker has lost his rationality, and exists only to utterly defeat the enemy from the front as directed by Illya. Naturally, there is no such thing as detailed tactics, leaving it to physical ability and brandishing an axe-sword to strike. Astonishingly, with just that, it is a fact that he demonstrates hand-to-hand combat abilities superior to every Servant. Without breaking to even think about defense, he leaves it to his Noble Phantasm "God Hand."
Class Abilities
Mad Enhancements: B
The Class Skill that characterizes Berserker, it reinforces ability at the cost of reason. As Heracles' possesses the skill at Rank B, in compensation for losing most of his sanity, the levels of all his abilities rise. Heracles beat his harp instructor to death when he was a child, and had many episodes when he killed people in his rage without even hearing them speak. It seems that for Heracles, Berserker that receives "Mad Enhancement" was an easy class to adapt to. Focusing on controllability when out of combat, the rank of "Mad Enhancement" is suppressed by Illya.
Being close to the strongest Heroic Spirit, even restricted to simple direct melee as consequence of Mad Enhancement, Heracles was undoubtedly the strongest among the Servants. However, because of Mad Enhancement, a variety of sword techniques and skills, and a part of his Noble Phantasms was lost. Having his emotions also sealed off and not able to perform any personally motivated actions, only the reason within his core was not lost, having occasions when he felt something like the will to protect Illya.
Personal Abilities
Battle Continuation: A
A skill that allows for the continuation of combat after sustaining mortal wounds. It will also reduce mortality rate from injury. Cú Chulainn’s Battle Continuation represents “never give up no matter what”, while Hercules’ represents the ability to survive. The Noble Phantasm that allows for resurrection after death, God Hand, has exceptional compatibility with the “will not die easily” skill Battle Continuation.
The best result is achieved when a resilient body is combined with this skill.
Eye of the Mind (False): B
A danger avoidance ability based on Intuition/Sixth Sense, gained through many ordeals and adventures. Even though Hercules’ sanity was lost due to Mad Enhancement, this skill remained effective as it is nearly an instinct. When crossing swords with a seasoned swordsman like Artoria, he would not fall for half-hearted feints. It is such a troublesome ability for Hercules’ opponents.
Although monstrous in size, Hercules has the highest rank in Agility. As a result, it is very difficult to corner him.
Bravery: A+
With his brave and daring spirit, Herakles is able to neutralise mental interference such as suppression, confusion and charm. However, under the influence of Mad Enhancement, this skill is unable to take effect. While operating correctly, Bravery also increases the damage inflicted upon the opponent during melee combat. This skill allowed Herakles to defeat several monsters empty-handed.
Even the brave warrior’s heart was painted over by the insanity of Mad Enhancement.
Divinity: A
Being a mixed-race child of the King of Gods Zeus and a human, and becoming a god after death, Herakles naturally possessed the highest level of the Divinity skill. However, this matter became a disaster, ending with his complete entrapment in Gilgamesh's Noble Phantasm "Chains of Heaven" that grows in strength proportionate to the enemy's Divinity.
Noble Phantasm
God Hand: Twelve Labors
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit
Range: -
Maximum Targets:
A blessing of Gods, as well as a curse. It is a Noble Phantasm given to Heracles, representing immortality. This Noble Phantasm does not have an overt external manifestation such as a weapon or armour, but if you hazard to put a shape to it, the body itself can be called the Noble Phantasm. God Hand turns one’s body into a tough suit of armour and nullifies all attacks Rank B or lower, regardless the attack being physical or magical. It also has the effect of automatic resurrection after death. Because the resurrection effect has 11 uses, Heracles cannot perish unless killed 12 times. In addition, due to Illya’s immense magical energy, given enough time, the lives lost can also be regenerated.
Resurrection as well as attack-nullification. Besides these two effects, God Hand also possesses a third effect: rendering an attack that it has experienced before useless. Regardless how powerful is the Noble Phantasm that defeated Heracles, it would be completely nullified after he resurrects.
Nine Lives: The Shooting Hundred Heads
Rank: -
Type: -
Range: -
Maximum Targets: -
Among Hercules’Noble Phantasms, he trusted this one the most. It was the Noble Phantasm which Hercules used to slay the immortal nine-headed serpent Hydra once upon a time, taking the form of bow and arrow. After killing the Hydra, Hercules could even utilise techniques that emulate the ability of this Noble Phantasm when wielding other weapons. In essence, it is “a high speed attack consisting of nine consecutive strikes, as swift as if the attacks are overlapping”. Even when delivered via sword, spear, or axe, this technique still boasts power on the level of Noble Phantasms. Also, just like Cú Chulainn’s demonic spear Gae Bolg has a technique called “Gae Bolg – Piercing Death Thorn”, Hercules’ technique shares the “Nine Lives – Shooting of Hundred Heads” name with the Noble Phantasm.
Shirou projected this secret sword technique while projecting Hercules’ Axe Sword, thus annihilating the Blackened Hercules. While summoned as a Berserker, Hercules could not use Nine Lives. - ↑ Fate/Grand Order: Cosmos in the Lostbelt - Yugakshetra: Saṃsāra of Genesis and Terminus - Section 16: Asvatthaman

A curse with Scandinavian origins.
The caster delivered the curse by pointing an index finger at the target and damaging his constitution.
Since Gandr targeted victims in the caster's field of vision, it was also called Gandr Shot.
Gandr was the origin of the perception that pointing at people was impolite or a form of cursing.
Since Rin's Gandr Shot was particularly violent, it could be considered on the level of Finn Shot.

I’m sorry, Mr. Mashin. (TL Note: This is the author of the manga “Fate/school life”. This is most likely referencing how Mashin is known to be a fan of Celenike and apologizing for how she died.)
…One of the Masters of the Black Camp. She is a magus of cursing techniques who curses her enemies to death. She has great skill, but she fails in terms of personality. She also possesses abundant knowledge of the modern era and has even tried to curse people to death on the computer through the electronic network.
In the Icecolle family’s dark arts rituals, it is the one that kills the sacrifice rather than the sacrifices themselves that must fall into a trance state. They always watch and deal with the other person with ice-cold eyes. It is the same as taking a solemn attitude towards the lives of living creatures when cooking meat.
It is the correct way to act when facing those who will become sacrifices—at the very least, the Icecolle family teaches this doctrine.
But still, perhaps they sacrificed too many people. Gradually, the thread of curses binding the Icecolle family became too thick and strong, and the additional factor of them moving their territory caused them to suddenly decline. Though the other members of the Icecolle family noticed Celenike’s distortion, they chose to shut their eyes to her sadistic hobbies due to her rare talent.
That pampering became the underlying cause that led her to prioritize her personal desire in the midst of the Great Holy Grail War and meet a tragic end… Well, she serves as an example that shows how magi who mistake the objective of their training end up like this. Or perhaps the sacrifices that the Icecolle family had killed until then had aimed to balance accounts in this way.
There are two flaws to cursing someone. No matter how well you curse someone to death without exposing your actions—that curse will eventually rain down upon the curser on a whim. Celenike just happened to receive the backlash this time.セレニケ・アイスコル・ユグドミレニア【人名】

[] Fate/Apocrypha material - Encyclopedia: Necromancy [Others], p.179 [T] Necromancy magecraft [Others]
Necromancy magecraft. The style of magecraft that Shishigou Kairi uses.
Necromancy falls under the magecraft systems of both communicating with the dead and curses among the departments within the Association of Magi, and the term specifies all magecraft styles that primarily use and process corpses. Even after the soul has vanished, a magus’ body continues to have extremely potent magical properties, so the corpses of magi are more useful than regular corpses. Besides magi, corpses of things like beasts with magical properties are also highly valued by necromancers. For instance, a Phantasmal Species can be made into a suitably strong Mystic Code. Shishigou Kairi processes pieces of corpses such as these for every use he could. For example, he used things like monkey hands, owl eyes, and the hearts of magi.
Shishigou Kairi’s Mystic Codes were very high quality, and most of all were easy to use since the Mystic Codes that he made from corpses lacked negative factors such as “regret” and “malice” attached to them (while these increase a Mystic Code’s power, it proportionally raises the possibility of it going berserk). And those who should have fallen into ruin ended up becoming the subject of conversation among magi again—that includes the story of how Shishigou Kairi’s Magic Crest was turned poisonous, though.死霊魔術【その他】

[] Tsukihime Dokuhon PlusPeriod - TSUKIHIME Dictionary: Magecraft [Term], p.188 Magecraft [Term]
A general term for the act of artificially reenacting mysteries and miracles.
Although each school has its individual differences, it is basically a mechanism for using the magical energy in the practitioner's body or the outside world, in order to reenact a predetermined phenomenon. The practitioner sends an order (command) to the foundation (system) controlled by their school, and a pre-made function (program) is executed.
The "electrical current" needed to send that command and execute the program is magical energy.
Though sorcery may seem almighty, it is basically the bringing about of mysteries by means of equivalent exchange. Accordingly, sorceries powerful enough to interfere with Nature will obviously require enough magical energy (mana) to fill Nature just to execute them.
There is a limit to the sorceries that can be executed using an individual's magical energy alone.
Also, sorceries that affect other people's minds and change the course of their thoughts require no physical compensation, but the practitioner will inevitably find their own thoughts being pulled in that altered direction as well. As the saying goes, before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves. Because the study of curses is looked down upon as unscholarly by the Association, they have fallen far behind the Middle East in that particular field.魔術【用語】

Nasu Kinoko & Takeuchi Takashi Discussion
>The Catalyst for Gilgamesh's birth
Nasu: When I was working on old "Fate". I wanted to do a "World Hero Fighting Tournament" and Heracles was there as an obvious pick because he was a well-known hero famous for being the strongest of them all. So then I decided to look for a lesser-known and extremely ancient hero. That's how I came across Gilgamesh. There were other candidates that I considered, but Gilgamesh had a powerful name and an interesting legend, both of which made him perfect for the role of the "ultimate" character. Gilgamesh's general concept hasn't changed much since those days.
Takeuchi: True, Gil's been wearing golden armour since old "Fate".
Nasu: There's that as well as his ability to dual wield two swords at once. Gil's Noble Phantasm in old "Fate" was totally different from what it was in "stay night", but his role in the story remained the same. The oldest of man's hero kings, decked out in his golden armour and Servant to a priest, Kuzuki's friend.
Takeuchi: You mean the guy with the mask?
Nasu: You're thinking of Berserker's Master. But anyway, back to the topic... In the "stay night" storyline, Archer was replaced by Emiya and that affected Gil's position. Gil became a boss character and was buffed up considerably. I mean, he was an unquestionably powerful guy to begin with, but he didn't have such utterly terrifying abilities in the old "Fate" days. There are tons of heroes throughout history, but I brought Gil as an entity that is removed from human notions of good and evil. He's like a god or a natural disaster.
Takeuchi: Gil went through quite a bit of revamping when he was set to become a boss character, didn't he?
Nasu: Yeah, he was always the most extreme example of self-importance, but he didn't stop there. In our story, he was the most obnoxious kind of hero who couldn't seem to help but achieve a completeness at both ends of the spectrum. The decision to pursue "evil" resulted in him also achieving the epitome of "good," and vice versa. But when you look at him from a historical point of view, you can't help but admit that this guy was quite possibly the greatest leader of all time. I felt like I had reached the level of confidence I needed about Gil's character hen I came up with the idea to use one specific form of the personal pronoun "I" in written text, while having him speak a different form of it orally. The written form was suggestive of a formal person of grand importance, like a king, while the spoken version was more bratty and self-righteous. I felt like this self-contained paradox served as a subtle hint regarding Gil's personality.
Takeuchi: Yeah, that thing you did with the personal pronoun summed up his entire character concept.
Nasu: I'm sure it's been done a million times over by now, but I think it was a relatively new idea at the time.
>Designing Gilgamesh's outfits and armaments
Takeuchi: Koyama led the way for Gilgamesh's armour design.
Nasu: The infamous armour design that reduced countless staff members to tears. (laughs)
Takeuchi: In three dimensions, it was a super complicated design. Of course, I think it was a great contrast to Saber's extremely simple armour design.
Nasu: We'll just ignore all the naysayers who ask questions like "Isn't gold a rather soft metal for armour?" or "Why is his whole body decked out in terms of protection, yet he doesn't wear a helmet?" (laughs)
Takeuchi: I was the one who designed his casual clothes. I was originally planning to go with something flashier. People who played "hollow" might know what I'm talking about.
Nasu: Yeah, we toned it down because I thought it was a bit over the top for "Fate".
Takeuchi: Though I'm still not sure if we got it quite right...
Nasu: To be honest, we didn't actually have a design concept prepared for Gil's clothes. But then there was that scene at the beginning of the game where Gil converses with Sakura, and that other scene in the latter half of Saber's route where Shirou and the others encounter him. Considering the settings for those encounters, we couldn't very well have Gil popping up in his full suit of shiny golden armour shouting "Halt!" or whatever, because the reaction he'd get would probably just be laughter rather than apprehension. That's when I turned to Takeuchi and said, "I think he needs some casual clothes."
Takeuchi: Figuring out casual outfits for the servants was always tricky. We couldn't go with anything too crazy, but putting them in really mundane clothes would take too much away from the fact that they are special characters. Once the concepts for the other characters started getting hammered out, we reviewed the overall balanced and decided that Gil's early clothing design had to be nixed.
Nasu: What material was used for Gil's clothes? Leather?
Takeuchi: I guess. I looked through a lot of fashion magazines for inspiration, but sometimes the look of something changes entirely when translated into illustrations. I feel like I failed to accurately reproduce the image I had in my mind of Gil's clothes.
>Sakura and Gilgamesh
Takeuchi: What were Gil and Sakura talking about at the beginning of the game, anyway?
Nasu: Gil knew about Sakura being tainted by Angra Mainyu, so he was telling her "I've seen countless females like you before. You are an annoyance and should die now." These words weren't spoken in anger or hatred, though, and are probably the closest Gil would ever come to expressing mercy. He was just letting her know that things would be easier for her if she died before anything terrible happened to her.
Takeuchi: So he was looking out for someone other than himself? That's interesting... but only someone like him could have such a heavy conversation in the middle of the street like that.
Nasu: Yeah, if you actually think about it, what does it say about him that a casual stroll down the street could lead to "You there! Woman! Kill yourself now." (laughs)
Takeuchi: For such a powerful character, he did lose to Sakura rather easily.
Nasu: Gil lost to Sakura so easily because he let his guard down. What's a king without complacency, right? I think the biggest factor, though, was a simple question of their respective natures. Gil was pretty much invulnerable against Servants because he was the "Killer of Heroes", while Dark Sakura was the "Devourer of Heroic Spirits", which extends to Servants.
Takeuchi: Buuut... Gil acquired a flesh-and-blood body for himself, so doesn't that mean he's technically not a servant anymore?
Nasu: It doesn't matter because he got his new body through the Holy Grail system, which means he can't deny the power of Dark Sakura, who is a manifestation of the Holy Grail itself. On another note, Gil's magical powers were off the charts in his flesh-and-blood form, so absorbing that level of power broke the dam and caused Sakura to fall apart.
>The message Gilgamesh carries as a character
Nasu: I think everything I wanted to say with Gilgamesh is pretty well summarised in the whole pronoun gimmick I mentioned earlier. Even though he is not one to be tied down by notions like morality or decency, he does have a sort of system that guides his actions and conduct.
Takeuchi: I do feel like Gil is just one big walking, talking misunderstanding.
Nasu: Another thing about Gil is that something as simple as his hairstyle can vastly change the impression he gives off. In Saber's route, Gil's hair is slicked back to give his look a more violent touch, but the rest of him was designed so that merely letting his hair down would give him a look like your average main character. I wanted Gil to portray these characteristics because the "real" Gil from the legends was more laid back like the latter example. I asked Takeuchi to bring back the old Arthur design to help with creating the "hair down" version of Gil. Just let his hair loose and Gil could easily pass as the main character!

[] Fate/complete material II: Character Material - Weapons: Caladbolg II, p.128 User: Archer
Caladbolg is the demonic sword wielded by the Irish hero Fergus mac Róich in Celtic mythology. The version that Archer projects has been altered to improve its function as an arrow.
In the legends, Fergus mac Róich was the former king of Ulster and foster-father of the hero Cú Chulainn. However, he was tricked out of his kingship, and later allied with Connacht, an enemy of Ulster. During the decisive battle between Connacht and Ulster, Fergus was able to corner the enemy king who had betrayed him, but was prevented from killing him. It is said that he redirected his rage at this turn of events upon three hills, using Caladbolg to blast their tops clean off.
Cú Chulainn is affected by a geis that makes it his duty to be defeated once by the sword so long as the wielder is Ulster-born. For that reason, it could be said to be his natural enemy.
Also, there is a theory that the Caladbolg from Celtic mythology is the same sword as the Caledfwlch from Welsh mythology, making it a prototype of Excalibur.
